WELCOME PILOTS
Wow, it has been a whirlwind over the past month since my daughter’s automobile accident. Fortunately, she is exceeding all expectations and is going through various rehabilitation therapies. Thanks for all the well wishes, prayers and support. I’m getting back into the swing of things and will bring you more aviation videos and articles.

TRAGEDY STRIKES HOME
By TC FREEMAN
One of the worst things that a father can go through happened little over a month ago. My teen-age daughter was involved in a serious automobile accident that required helicopter medevac to the local trauma hospital. This experience can be best described as an emotional roller coaster of two steps forward, followed by a step back. Fortunately, she has been exceeding all expectations and I’ve learned that you have to look at the big picture or else the emotional rollercoaster is difficult to sustain long term. An event such as this prompts a lot of introspection about life in general and the importance of safety as we travel.
Doing my own bit of soul searching I’ve come to realize some of the bad habits that I’ve adopted over the past several years. Perhaps my biggest sin is impatience, which if I’m honest is an emotion that I allow into my mind. It’s not the slow driver, traffic jam or the air traffic controller not clearing me direct  to destination soon enough; ultimately I have to take responsibility in deciding how circumstances impact me. Frustration can lead to anger and poor decision making. The importance of safety cannot be emphasized enough and the consequences for neglecting this rule can result in tragedy. It’s important for us all to slow down, put safety first and realize that things rarely go exactly as planned.
I want to give a heartfelt thanks to the entire medevac flight team for expediting my daughter to the trauma hospital was quickly as possible in her time of need.
Fortunately the accident happened within a quarter of a mile of a fire-rescue station and three quarters of a mile from a suitable Landing Zone (LZ). Thanks again for all of the nice words of support and prayers during this trying time. The silver lining is that we plan on moving forward through learning and positive introspection.

… for pilots flying just for the fun of it.

With the issue of sequestration, the shut-down of many Air Traffic Control Towers is a possibility. Regardless, it is important to know how to safely and efficiently operate at Non-Towered Airports. In this audio book TC Freeman discusses; straight in approaches, dealing with aircraft on extended downwind and traffic pattern entries.
